TE Nick O’Leary, TE Logan Thomas, CB Lafayette Pitts to re-sign with Buffalo Bills
All four exclusive rights free agency will be back with the Buffalo Bills in 2018.
Buffalo Football Beat reported on Feb. 15 that the team had re-signed defensive end Eddie Yarbrough. ESPN reported on Tuesday that the team’s other three ERFA’s, cornerback Lafayette Pitts and tight ends Nick O’Leary and Logan Thomas, will all be back with the Bills as well.
An “exclusive rights” free agent means that a player is only – kind of – a free agent. A player who falls under this category has two or fewer years of NFL experience and the team has the option of offering the player a vet-minimum tenure.
Once a player is offered the contract by the team, they have two options: sign it, or sit out the season. However, the team can simply not tenure the player and he’ll become a free agent on March 14.
O’Leary had a career-year with the Bills in 2017, setting career-high totals in catches (22), receiving yards (322), and touchdowns (2).
Thomas had seven catches, 67 receiving yards and a touchdown while had eight tackles, spending time on special teams.
