Report: Cornerback EJ Gaines could leave Bills for Houston Texans
The Buffalo Bills signed cornerback Vontae Davis, so the writing was on the wall already. Now it’s becoming more and more likely that the Bills and EJ Gaines will go their separate ways.
According to a report on Monday from the Houston Chronicle, Gaines is on the Houston Texans’ radar. The report also said that “multiple teams” will be interested in his services.
That, combined with Gaines’ estimated value on the open market per Spotrac somewhere around $9 million a season, makes the Davis’ signing look even better. Davis has a cap hit near $4.3 million in scheduled in 2018.
Davis is coming off of groin and core muscle injuries, but Gaines has also had his share of injuries. In 2017 with the Bills, which appears to likely go down as his lone year with the team, Gaines played 11 games notching 59 tackles, nine passes defended and one interception.
According to Pro Football Focus, games allowed 38 reception on 60 targets. Gaines will be an unrestricted free agent come 4 p.m. Wednesday.
