By now you might have heard that Buffalo Bills offensive lineman Richie Incognito is being investigated by the NFL for allegations made by Jacksonville Jaguars defensive end Yannick Ngakoue.
If you don’t here’s the jist: Incognito will be investigated by the NFL after Ngakoue took to Twitter following Buffalo’s 10-3 Wild Card loss on Sunday to allege Incognito directed a racial slur at him during the game.
Here’s the latest and what multiple players on both teams said in regard to the allegation. Multiple teammates defended Incognito, notably Dion Dawkins.
And here’s exactly what Ngakoue tweeted:
On Monday, the Bills had locker cleanout day and Incognito was not made available for comment. While the Jags are underway with their preparations for their AFC divisional round meeting with the Pittsburgh Steelers, Ngakoue did speak.
The defensive linemen defended his statement, but didn’t dive deep into details. For exactly what Ngakoue said, find the attached transcript below of his entire interview with the Jacksonville media on Monday below:
I was just speaking on behalf of my ethnicity. I just feel like, you know, it’s a great place to be in the league. You’ve got different cultures and different ethnicity groups. That’s what I was basically saying.
Elaborate on comments?
He said what he said yesterday (Sunday). Like I said before, we had a great team win yesterday. I said what I needed to say yesterday.
Why share on social media?
I just feel like people needed to know what happened. That’s why I said what I said.
Was it recurring during the game?
There was 22 players on the field yesterday. I’m pretty sure I’m not the only person that heard stuff.
Did he use the N-word?
I don’t recall.
Did teammates hear?
Not really sure, but I’m pretty sure his teammates heard.
Did you confront him?
Did I confront him? Nah. I couldn’t confront him. I had to focus on the game, focus on winning.
Johnathan Martin hashtag?
I said what I had to say.
Are you disappointed people are using that language?
It just goes to show you we still have a lot of growing to do as a league and just as people, period. That’s why we have this platform to use to try to help bring change.
What is your reaction to all of this?
All you can do is walk away. Put the team first and focus on winning. You can’t focus on individual battles.
Can you get into any specifics on what was said?
It was just after a certain play. I was rushing the passer and words were said, so I felt like I had to say it.
After a penalty?
Was it different than trash talk?
I’ve been playing this game since I was a little kid. You hear all type of stuff. Stuff is not going to bother you, but when somebody says something about your ethnicity, that’s really kind of taking it a little bit too far. … You can’t say certain things.
Did officials hear?
I’m not sure.
Have you talked to the league?
Was it racist?
Of course. That’s why I said what I said.
